Venues

Aside from the bars, coffee shops, and theaters that bring comedy to their patrons, Portland is lucky enough to have venue spaces devoted entirely to comedy. Be sure to check out their websites for full calendars.

Curious Comedy Theater

5225 NE Martin Luther King Blvd.
Portland, OR 97211
(503) 477-9477

Curious Comedy Theater’s mission is to prove the press wrong and inspire the citizens of Portland to stand up, laugh and be happy. Curious Comedy Main Stage Revues offer a totally new and unique brand of hilarious improv, sketch, and stand up comedy. Founders Stacey Hallal and Bob Ladewig have taken their education and experience from Second City Chicago, training grounds of such talents as Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler, and Steve Carell and imbued it will Portland’s love of creativity and surprise.

Brody Theater

16 NW Broadway
Portland, OR 97209
(503) 224-2227

The Brody’s double focus–on entertainment and experiment–marks it as a showcase for both audience-pleasing performances and cutting edge theatrical presentation. The Brody school, both a training ground for its own improvisers and a workshop for actors wishing to broaden their skills, creates at the theater a vital and vibrant exchange; Saturday night’s spontaneous stage discovery becomes Monday’s workshop focus, and vice-versa. This chemistry is one reason the Brody school counts among its students many members of other area performance troupes.

Helium Comedy Club

1510 SE 9th Avenue
Portland, Oregon 97214
888-643-8669

Helium Comedy Club is the newest addition to Portland’s entertainment scene. Helium is a stand-up comedy club that offers a three-act comedy show Wednesday through Saturday (showtimes are typically 8:00PM with additional 10:30PM shows on Friday and Saturday). The show lasts about an hour and forty minutes and will include an opener, a feature, and a headliner with national TV credits.

Helium also holds an open mic night, which occurs every Tuesday at 8, with sign ups starting at 6; admission is free. Be sure to join their email list and check the website often for updates.

Harvey’s Comedy Club

  436 NW 6th Avenue
  Portland, OR
  (503) 241-0338‎

Harvey’s is a Northwest premier all-comedy night club. Featuring the world’s funniest comedians. Harvey’s is a full-service non-smoking restaurant and lounge with banquet facilities for up to 200 guests in our main showroom.

ComedySportz Portland

ComedySportz Arena
1963 NW Kearney St.
Portland, OR 97209
503.236.8888

ComedySportz is fast-paced, family-friendly improvisational comedy, played as a sport. Two teams take turns making up scenes, playing games and singing songs – and the audience votes on which team they like the best. It’s all presided over by a referee, who keeps things moving, calls the ComedySportz fouls and takes suggestions shouted out by the audience before each game. If you’ve seen TV’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? you’ve got the basic idea, although ComedySportz’s two-team competitive format ensures a fast-paced, high-energy show – and seeing this live show is very different from watching a TV show.

Action/Adventure Theatre

1050 SE Clinton St.
Portland, OR  97202
actionadventuretheater@gmail.com

Action/Adventure Theatre is a not-for-profit Portland-based performance collective that collaborates and experiments with local artists of varied disciplines and actively engages and cultivates a new audience base. Action/Adventure strives to broaden Portland’s supportive artistic network and create work that is inspiring, relevant, and speaks to the universal and the local experience. [Editor's Note: Action/Adventure is not a full-time comedy venue, but they are huge comedy supporters and many of their shows are comedy-based!]

Funhouse Lounge

2432 SE 11th Ave  Portland, OR 97214
(503) 841-6734

Funhouse Lounge is an arts-centric lounge, located in the central eastside. A modern cabaret of sorts, a place to enjoy a drink and some good eats while being entertained. Funhouse Lounge is also the home of The Unscriptables, Portland’s best unscripted theatre company, performing every Saturday. Also look forward to some of Portland’s leading Musicians, Singers, Storytellers, Poets, Dancers, Comedians, and Artists hitting the stage.
