The Brody’s double focus–on entertainment and experiment–marks it as a showcase for both audience-pleasing performances and cutting edge theatrical presentation. The Brody school, both a training ground for its own improvisers and a workshop for actors wishing to broaden their skills, creates at the theater a vital and vibrant exchange; Saturday night’s spontaneous stage discovery becomes Monday’s workshop focus, and vice-versa. This chemistry is one reason the Brody school counts among its students many members of other area performance troupes.

ComedySportz is fast-paced, family-friendly improvisational comedy, played as a sport. Two teams take turns making up scenes, playing games and singing songs – and the audience votes on which team they like the best. It’s all presided over by a referee, who keeps things moving, calls the ComedySportz fouls and takes suggestions shouted out by the audience before each game. If you’ve seen TV’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? you’ve got the basic idea, although ComedySportz’s two-team competitive format ensures a fast-paced, high-energy show – and seeing this live show is very different from watching a TV show.

Funhouse Lounge is an arts-centric lounge, located in the central eastside. A modern cabaret of sorts, a place to enjoy a drink and some good eats while being entertained. Funhouse Lounge is also the home of The Unscriptables, Portland’s best unscripted theatre company, performing every Saturday. Also look forward to some of Portland’s leading Musicians, Singers, Storytellers, Poets, Dancers, Comedians, and Artists hitting the stage.
